Jamaican Festival Hush Puppies
Lightly crisp on the outside. Soft and sweet on the inside. Tender cornmeal batter surrounds our famous tangy-sweet baked beans, a hint of allspice and spicy Jamaican jerk seasoning in a beautiful golden fritter. Serve with mango chutney for dipping.

INGREDIENTS
- 3.75 qt. Yellow Cornmeal
- 2.5 qt. All Purpose Flour
- 2.5 cups Granulated Sugar
- 5 tsp Baking Soda
- 5 tsp Baking Powder
- 3.5 Tbsp Kosher Salt
- 5 tsp Allspice, Powdered
- 3.75 qt. Buttermilk
- 10 Eggs, Large
- 1.5 cups Jamaican Jerk Seasoning, Hot & Spicy
- 2 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
- 10 cups Bush’s Best® Bean Pot® Vegetarian Baked Beans, Drained
- 5 qt. Mango Chutney (For dipping)
INGREDIENTS
- 3.75 qt. Yellow Cornmeal
- 2.5 qt. All Purpose Flour
- 2.5 cups Granulated Sugar
- 5 tsp Baking Soda
- 5 tsp Baking Powder
- 3.5 Tbsp Kosher Salt
- 5 tsp Allspice, Powdered
- 3.75 qt. Buttermilk
- 10 Eggs, Large
- 1.5 cups Jamaican Jerk Seasoning, Hot & Spicy
- 2 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
- 10 cups Bush’s Best® Bean Pot® Vegetarian Baked Beans, Drained
- 5 qt. Mango Chutney (For dipping)
DIRECTIONS
- Pre-heat a fryer to 365ºF.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, kosher salt, and allspice.
- In a separate mixing bowl combine buttermilk, egg, Jamaican jerk seasoning, and 2 Tbsp of vegetable oil. Whisk until ingredients are well combined.
- Whisk wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until well mixed.
- Once the mixture resembles a batter, gently fold in the Bush’s Best® Bean Pot® Vegetarian Baked Beans until well incorporated. Refrigerate until needed.
- For each hush puppy, scoop 2 Tbsp of batter into the fryer. Fry 3–5 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove hush puppies from the fryer onto a sheet pan lined with paper towels to drain.
- For each portion, serve 2 hush puppies with 2 Tbsp mango chutney for dipping.
